Homeowners in Black Mountain enjoy a great quality of life and lots of history in this charming town. Also known as the “Front Porch of the Blue Ridge Mountains”, Black Mountain has been named one of the top 50 Safest Towns in North Carolina, The Best Small Town in Western North Carolina and Trip Advisor named it one of the Prettiest Small Towns In America. Founded in 1893, it was a major pathway with the railroad coming through. The Old Train Depot by the tracks was reestablished as a Gallery and craft heritage preservation. Start here and work your way through this beautiful mountain town filled with craft shops, local taps, restaurants, local coffee, and local music. Town Square is the perfect spot for a picnic, chats with your neighbors, sitting for a spell in the giant rockers, and taking in the views. Just down the main road, you’ll find your way to Montreat. This village has no commercial development, no stoplights, and not a bit of hustle and bustle. What it does have is 30 miles of hiking trails, Montreat College, Lake Susan, and more rhododendrons and mountain laurel filled Flat Creek. So, put your car in park and get out and walk this little spot. Just a half mile loop around Lake Tomahawk provides sweeping views of The Seven Sisters Mountain Peaks.
